About Red Lodge, Montana

Red Lodge is a resort and ranching community with a colorful coal-mining past that looks onto 28 peaks rising over 12,000 feet. This charming alpine town is nestled in the foothills of the magnificent Beartooth Mountains and is surrounded by Custer National Forest. The 69-mile Beartooth Scenic Drive (Highway 212) has dramatic switchbacks overlooking snow-capped peaks, glaciers, alpine lakes and plateaus. The Beartooth Highway has been described as the most scenic drive in America by CBS news correspondent Charles Kuralt. The town of Red Lodge sits at an elevation of 5,555 feet.

Area attractions include:

Historic downtown Red Lodge featuring businesses built from the 1880's to 1915.

Beartooth Nature Center: view and pet native wild and domestic animals. All wild animals at the Center are here because they can not be returned to the wild. Elk, deer, pronghorn, bears, mountain lions, wolves, bobcats, foxes, farm animals and more.

The Carbon County Museum invites all those who are interested in the spirit of Montana's pioneer heritage to view its exhibits.

Nearby Yellowstone National Park and Red Lodge Mountain Ski Resort.

Red Lodge is the location of the Beartooth Rally and Iron Horse Rodeo in mid-July.  In addition, the community celebrates the 4th of July every year with its popular Home of Champions Rodeo.
